Supernatural film, "Ek Thi Daayan" (There Was a Witch) starring Emraan Hashmi had an average opening at the domestic box office on Friday.
The horror flick produced by Ekta Kapoor and Vishal Bhardwaj has raked in ₹6.24 crore at domestic box office on the first day.
"#EkThiDaayan numbers being compiled, but *early trends* suggest 6 cr + on Friday," trade analyst and film critic Taran Adarsh tweeted adding "#EkThiDaayan Fri 6.24 cr."
The film registered an average occupancy in the morning shows, but picked up later in the evening shows.
Kannan Iyer's directorial film features Emraan Hashmi, Konkona Sen Sharma, Huma Qureshi and Kalki Koechlin in the lead roles. The horror film was expected to earn big on the opening day.
The lead casts of the film have a huge fan following, especially Emraan. who is quite famous among the masses. Ekta Kapoor's unique marketing skills and the hype surrounding the film also created huge curiosity for the movie buffs.
The film couldn't fetch ₹10 crore on the opening day despite all the hype. Emraan's last horror film was "Raaz 3", which was one of the biggest openers last year. "Raaz 3" that featured Esha Gupta and Bipasha Basu in the female lead roles earned approximately ₹10.47 crore on opening day.
Now, all eyes are set on the opening weekend and first week collection of "Ek Thi Daayan". "ETD" is expected to earn more than ₹35 crore and break the record of opening weekend collection of "Raaz 3".
"Ek Tha Daayan" enjoys solo release and will dominate the screens in the first week.
