Kabir Khan's directorial movie "Ek Tha Tiger" starring Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif has set Indian box office record after collecting Rs 330 million on the opening day from 3300 screens across the country.
The movie opened with mixed reviews from critics, but raked in huge amount, breaking previous records at BO.
On the second day, the movie business dropped considerably, raking in approximately Rs 150 million, which is nearly half of the amount it collected on the release day.
"#EkThaTiger *actuals* Wed 32.93 cr (330 million), Thu 14.50 cr (150 million). Total: 47.43 cr (480 million) nett," Trade analyst and film critic Taran Adarsh tweeted.
"Today, it's back to work and school/college after a big holiday, so even if#EkThaTiger falls 50% [normal drop after a holiday], it's GREAT," Adarsh wrote.
"#EkThaTiger Thu figure is 15 + for sure. Numbers still being compiled. This figure, I repeat, is the BIGGEST weekday number ever," he tweeted on Friday morning.
However, the second day collection is still the highest weekday figure ever, according to director Kavbir Khan.
"Thur #EkThaTiger 16 crores (160 million).. Highest weekday figure EVER... & higher than most big films opening day :-)... Tiger... Tiger... Tiger..." Khan tweeted.
The movie, which was released on August 15 has set a new record and created history on the first day after breaking the records of Hrithik Roshan starring "Agneepath" which was the biggest opener with Rs 220 million at the box office.
"#EkThaTiger biz on Wed is humungous, historic. But wait for Eid celebrations. It will create History *again*. Picture abhi baaki hain!" Trade analyst and film critic Taran Adarsh tweeted.
"Okay, here's the *actuals* of #EkThaTiger on Wednesday: Rs 32.92 cr (330 million) nett on 3300 screens in India. Beyond Historic!"
"Those asking, yes, #EkThaTiger total of 32.92 cr (330 million) is 11 cr (110 million) HIGHER than the biggest opener #Agneepath [22 cr (220 million)]," he wrote.
"#EkThaTiger Day 1 numbers being compiled. But one thing is crystal clear: ALL previous records shattered by a BIG margin."
The total collection of two days is approximately Rs 480 million which is also a record amount of collection. The movie is also doing outstanding business in overseas market.
The movie released on Wednesday is expected to score in huge amounts in the next three days because of Eid holiday which falls on Monday.
With the amount it has collected in two days, the movie is expected to cross Rs 1 billion till Monday, and if it successfully crosses the mark, it would be the biggest record collection ever.
