Salman Khan has proved himself as the "tiger" of Bollywood, with his latest romantic action thriller "Ek Tha Tiger" continuing to roar at the box office.
Kabir Khan's directorial movie collected over ₹1.8 billion at the Indian box office within 14 days. Now the movie needs only ₹160 million to surpass the ₹2 billion mark and also to break "3 Idiots" records.
"#EkThaTiger Tuesday 2.60 Cr Total 180.47 Cr Nett," Trade analyst and film critic Taran Adarsh tweeted.
With its release the movie has set new records and has surpassed movies like "Ra.One" at ₹1.15 billion and "Agneepath" with ₹1.2 billion. The movie has become India's biggest hit after the Aamir Khan-starrer "3 Idiots".
The film, starring Salman and Katrina Kaif as RAW and ISI secret agents, opened to mixed reviews. However, Salmans's huge fan base helped set new records for the movie.
Even the idea of releasing the film during two holidays - Independence Day and Eid al-Fitr - helped the movie to become a blockbuster hit.
Salman's previous movies "Wanted", "Dabangg" and "Bodyguard" were also blockbusters.
On Monday, Taran Adarsh called the film an "all time blockbuster" on his Twitter account while referring to the total collections at both India as well as overseas market.
"#EkThaTiger [Week 2] *India* Mon 2.92 cr. Total: 177.87 cr nett. All Time Blockbuster," he tweeted the week 2 collections.
"#EkThaTiger [Weekend 2] *India* Fri 4.55 cr, Sat 7.01 cr, Sun 9.18 cr. Total [12 days]: 174.95 cr nett. ALL TIME BLOCKBUSTER," he wrote.
"#EkThaTiger India + Overseas combined biz *after 2nd Weekend* is Rs 210 cr +. ALL TIME BLOCKBUSTER."
