Sunny Leone starrer "Ek Paheli Leela" has registered a good opening day box office collection. The musical thriller has become the fifth highest opening day grosser of 2015.
Despite releasing on a non-holiday Friday, the film fared better than last big release "Detective Byomkesh Bakshy!".
Sushant Singh Rajput starrer "Detective Byomkesh Bakshy!" was released on a Good Friday holiday and still it raked in ₹4.20 crore, while "Ek Paheli Leela" minted ₹5.30 crore.
"#EkPaheliLeela Fri ₹ 5.30 cr. India biz. Strong at single screens," trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted.
Written and directed by Bobby Khan, "Ek Paheli Leela" has also broken the first day box office collection record of Anushka Sharma's "NH10", which garnered rave reviews on its release.
"Ek Paheli Leela" is the fifth highest first day grosser after Ranbir Kapoor and Arjun Rampal's "Roy", Akshay Kumar's "Baby", Arjun Kapoor's "Tevar" and Varun Dhawan's "Badlapur".
Movie | Release Date | Opening Day Earnings in Rs Crore |
Roy | 13 February | 10.40 |
Baby | 23 January | 9.3 |
Tevar | 9 January | 7.05 |
Badlapur | 20 February | 7 |
Ek Paheli Leela | 10 April | 5.30 |
Meanwhile, Sunny Leone's latest release has fared less than her last film "Ragini MMS 2". The horror flick registered smashing opening day occupancy at theaters in India.
The horror film accumulated ₹8.43 crore on its first day run at the domestic box office.
Nevertheless, "Ek Paheli Leela" is expected to have a good opening weekend as the collection is bound to pick up on Saturday and Sunday.
Also, the film is expected to earn its production cost of ₹15 crore (including cost of P&A) in its first three days run.
The musical thriller has an ensemble cast starring Sunny Leone in the lead. The film also features Mohit Ahlawat, Rajniesh Duggal, Jay Bhanushali and Rahul Dev in pivotal roles.
