Adharvaa's "Eetti", also spelt as "Eeti", has got a fantastic opening in Chennai and has left behind the other release "Bengal Tiger". It has also performed better than a few other flicks including Ajith's "Vedalam".
"Eetti" minted Rs 69.97 lakh from 195 shows in Chennai, reports Behindwoods, which is an astonishing number for a budding actor like Adharavaa. It appears like positive reviews played a major role in pulling audience to theatres.
The film's popularity is a good sign for Kollywood as it has been badly affected by the Chennai floods. The latest Tamil film is expected to do well due to good word-of-mouth from the audience.
The other major release was Telugu flick "Bengal Tiger" starring Ravi Teja. In the first weekend, the film raked in Rs 23.05 lakh from 66 shows. This is an average collection for a Tollywood movie and the film could possibly do good business, given the positive reviews from critics.
Arya and Anushka Shetty's "Inji Iduppazhagi" had 81 shows in its third weekend, from which it made Rs 16.13 lakh. The total collection now stands at Rs 1.02 crore.
Previous week's release "Urumeen" had 78 shows and minted Rs 14.32 lakh. So far, it has earned Rs 39.01 lakh from Chennai.
Ajith's "Vedalam" has been pushed down to the next place. It had 63 shows from which it earned Rs 7.89 lakh to take its total tally to Rs 6.56 crore by the end of its fifth weekend. It is followed by Bollywood movie "Tamasha", which earned Rs 4.89 lakh from 24 shows. Till date, it has earned Rs 40.75 lakh at the Chennai box office.
