The Election Commission Thursday visited Manipur to review preparedness for the forthcoming Assembly elections in the state. The elections will be held Jan. 28.
A three-member committee, headed by Chief Election Commissioner S Y Quraishi, held a meeting with the political parties and senior officers.
During the meeting, the commission had directed a series of measures to ensure free, fair and peaceful elections in the state, said a statement from the EC.
The commission directed the state government to change the Director General of Police. Based on the orders of the commission, Ratnakar Baral took over as the new Director General of Police Thursday.
The photograph of each and every voter would be taken at the polling stations to avoid bogus voting, the commission said.
