A 7.5 magnitude earthquake, with its epicentre in Afghanistan's Hindu Kush, jolted north India and the Af-Pak region on Monday afternoon, causing widespread panic.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has extended a helping hand to Afghanistan and Pakistan where over 100 people were killed.

"Heard about strong earthquake in Afghanistan-Pakistan region whose tremors have been felt in parts of India. I pray for everyone's safety," he tweeted. "I have asked for an urgent assessment, and we stand ready for assistance where required, including Afghanistan and Pakistan."

States affected include Delhi, Jammu & Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab and Haryana.

Several people fled out of their houses and offices in the ensuing panic.

Though many buildings have collapsed in the Kashmir Valley, there were no reports of casualties.

Metro services, which had been halted in Delhi and Jaipur, have been resumed.

Indian ambassador in Kabul Amar Singh said there was no casualty or damage to property among Indians, reported IANS.
