EA Sports UFC 2 -- the MMA video game that is scheduled to be released on 15 March -- has announced that the 'Mystery Fighter' in the game will be Mike Tyson -- the iconic former professional boxing heavyweight champion. It has revealed that players will get two playable versions of him -- "Iron Mike Tyson" and "Legacy Mike Tyson".
This is Tyson's first foray into the MMA video game, and he has never stepped into the actual octagon before. Following his retirement, Tyson has served as the guest referee in WWE WrestleMania and has been part of "The Hangover" movie too.
EA explained that "Iron" Mike Tyson was based on "his climb to stardom and string of invincible fights in the eighties" and "Legacy" Mike Tyson was "developed with the end of his illustrious career in mind."
"When you think about the most devastating fighters of all time, Mike Tyson is either around, or at the top of everyone's list. It's fun to think that if MMA was as popular back when he was competing as it is today, you might have seen Tyson put on four ounce gloves and step into the Octagon," said Creative Director Brian Hayes. "This is one of those great 'what ifs' that we get to create when making a game like EA Sports UFC 2".
"As a huge fan, I'm honoured to be part of EA Sports and explore the world of mixed martial arts," said Mike Tyson. "I follow UFC very closely and it's going to be very cool to see how I would stack up against these amazing MMA athletes."
In order to access these two versions of Mike Tyson, the players will have to progress in the game to unlock it.
The company has also revealed that the players who pre-order EA Sports UFC 2 Deluxe Edition will get access to both the playable versions of Mike Tyson. Those pre-ordering EA Sports UFC 2 Standard Edition will only get day-one access to "Iron" Mike Tyson.
EA Sports UFC 2 will release only for PS4 and Xbox One. EA Sports UFC 2 is developed by EA Canada and published by EA.
