The world's biggest gaming extravaganza, The Electronic Entertainment Expo aka E3, has effectively started ahead of the official event in Los Angeles from June 13 - 15. The industry's biggest console makers and game publishers will do a bunch of press conferences, showcasing their most-promising offerings to the gaming fraternity at the expo.
Unlike in the past, this year's expo is open for the public and no longer reserved for the privileged industry heads and media attendees. Early announcements have already kicked in, starting with the EA Play press conference on June 10.
Here's a quick look at what has been announced so far from the likes of EA and what to expect from the likes of Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo:
Electronic Arts
EA Play event was held ahead of the E3 with some top-of-the-line games being showcased in the pre-show. Need for Speed: Payback, FIFA 18 and Star Wars Battlefront II are among the highly-anticipated games shown off by EA at the expo. Bioware's brand new game Anthem and a new prison break game called 'A Way Out' were also seen in the EA Play event.
Microsoft
Microsoft will be showcasing some exclusive game titles for its newly launched Project Scorpio, which is touted as the world's most-powerful console ever made. In a nut shell, Xbox Scorpio will be a highly-advanced version of the Xbox One with the ability to run games at 60fps in 4K resolution. Eight independent custom processors and 12GB RAM on-board will make the Scorpio a strong favourite rivalling the likes of PlayStation 4 Pro from Sony.
All existing Xbox One and backwards compatible Xbox 360 games are rated to run seamlessly and also load faster on the new Xbox Scorpio. Microsoft's flagship console will be retailing around $399 (Rs.26,691 approx.) and will introduce support for virtual reality (VR) headsets.
Watch out for Microsoft's key note on Sunday, June 11, at 2 pm PDT (aka 2:30 am IST on June 12). Check out the live streaming video of Microsoft Xbox conference on the official YouTube channel here and also live on Twitch.
Sony
Sony's biggest game titles this year will include God of War, Destiny 2 (beta), Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, The Last of Us 2 and Spider-Man. All these titles will be exclusive launches for PlayStation 4 and PS VR as the company will not be working on any new console launch this time.
However, new bundled offers and price cuts on the existing PS4 slim models cannot be ruled out. Meanwhile, industry experts are predicting a sharp $100 price cut on the PS4 Pro as Sony gears up for an intense battle with Microsoft's Project Scorpio.
Sony PlayStation VR is also on the cards at the E3 2017. However, PS Vita 2 is being pushed back in the pipeline owing to the poor sales numbers of the PlayStation Vita.
Sony's press conference is scheduled to kick off on Monday, June 12, at 6:00 PM PDT (6:30 am IST on June 13).
Nintendo
Nintendo has withdrawn major console announcements at E3 and instead will focus more on the upcoming game titles as part of Nintendo Spotlight, a video presentation on newest games like Splatoon 2 and ARMS for its new Switch console. Super Mario Odyssey will also make its way to the show floor for a brief demo video on the same. 3DS launch news may also be on the cards as the Nintendo event will be live streamed on June 13 starting at 9:00am PDT (9:30pm IST).
Ubisoft, Activision and Bethesda
Far Cry 5 and the highly-rumoured Assassin's Creed Origins will be Ubisoft's biggest titles this year at the E3 expo. Meanwhile, Activtion will be showing off some visually-appealing titles like the Destiny 2 and Call of Duty: WW2 at the event.
Bethesda is yet to catch up on the hype and publicity bandwagon at the E3 events as it has mostly kept its announcements off limits in the E3. Nevertheless, we might see a couple of teasers pertaining to Doom VR and Fallout 4 VR, wherein the latter is already confirmed for a PC release via HTC Vive. An open-world sci-fi title dubbed 'Starfield' is also on the cards at the expo.
