A Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) constable shot himself dead while on duty at a Delhi Metro Station of the Airport Express line. "The constable was taken to the nearby Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan Hospital, but was declared brought dead," a senior Delhi Police officer told IANS.
The incident occurred around 3am after the constable, Mukesh Kumar Tokas, and fellow constable Himangshu Pandey were returning to the Metro station after a brief check outside. Though Pandey got back inside the station, Tokas, 40, stayed out.
"Around 2.15 am on Thursday, both the constables went out of the Metro station for a check around the premises," the officer said.
"On return, Mukesh put his AK-47 rifle to his head and shot himself. His colleague was just ahead of him but did not get the time to stop him," PTI quoted a senior police official as saying.
The reason behind Tokas' alleged suicide is not clear yet but a CISF officer said "it seems like Tokas was depressed over some family issues".
Tokas stayed with his wife, son and a daughter at a rented accommodation at Bijwasan in southwest Delhi.
