Director Sameer Thahir's latest Malayalam movie "Kali" has become the first blockbuster of Dulquer Salmaan in 2016. The family thriller has been garnering tremendous response from movie-goers ever since its release on March 26.
However, compared to its second weekend at the U.S. box office, the film, starring Dulquer and Sai Pallavi, could only make an gross collection of $4,571 from 10 screens during its third weekend (April 15-17). The film had collected a gross amount of $24,376 from 21 screens during its second weekend (April 8-10) at the overseas box office and did a total business of approximately $36,848 (Rs. 24.52 lakh) in three weeks of its theatrical run in the U.S, according to Bollywood Hungama.
The movie has also been making good collections at the Kerala box office and is said to have crossed the Rs. 13 crore mark in less than a month of its release. The Dulquer-starrer, which narrates the day-to-day incidents in the life of a hot-tempered person, did tremendous business on its opening day, raking in an approximate gross amount of Rs. 2.33 crore, and making its way to the list of Malayalam movie with highest first day collection.
Meanwhile, Fahadh Faasil-starrer "Maheshinte Prathikaram" has earned $786 from a single screen during its eighth weekend at the overseas market, making a total gross collection of $96,548 (Rs. 64.25 lakh).
