A 14-year-old girl on Monday afternoon was allegedly teased and assaulted by a group of drunken goons at Kajipara area of Barasat, Kolkata.
According to an FIR lodged by the victim's father, the girl, who is a class VIII student, was on her way to a shop when the group of young boys passed lewd comments on her and severly beat her when she protested.
The girl suffered critical injuries and is admitted to Barasat district hospital, The Times of India reported.
The girl's father, who is a farmer, filed a complaint at Barasat police station against eight people. No arrests have been made so far.
According to reports, the girl started walking away when two of her attackers pulled her back. The boys later dragged the girl to a nearby field where they tried to rape her. The girl's screams alerted people in the neighbourhood who came to her rescue.
"The goons pounced on us and started beating us up. We also put up a fight but they overpowered us as there were many in number and we were only two. By the time other local residents rushed to the spot, the goons fled. The girl was traumatized and received several deep injuries on her head, chest and hands. We rushed her to the Barasat district hospital and informed her family members," one of the rescuers told TOI.
The accused are identified as Rahaman, Akbar, Mafen, Hannan, Pradip, Firoj, Raja and Dilip. Police are on the look-out for all the eight boys , a source told TOI.
Monday's incident happened nearly a month after an 18-year-old school girl, who was returning from her coaching classes, was chased and molested by a group of ten drunken boys on a platform of Barasat railway station.
