A teenage flower decorator died on the spot after being hit by a drunk driver in a BMW during the early hours of Monday. The 17-year-old victim, Kevin Richard was a resident of Domlur and was crossing the road when he was hit by the speeding car.
The driver, an oncology surgeon, Dr Ravi Teja, is a trainee doctor at Manipal Hospital. According to the Deccan Herald, he had visited a pub in Indiranagar earlier that night, dropped off a friend and was on his way back home. He hit Kevin who flew into the air due to the impact. He then fell on the bonnet, cracking the windshield and then fell to the ground.
Dr Teja who realised what had happened performed Cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on the victim but wasn't able to save him. He then took the victim to Manipal Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.
The onlookers alerted the police who rushed to the spot but Teja had taken the victim to the hospital.
On reaching the hospital, the police found that Teja had consumed alcohol before driving. He was tested and the police found that his blood alcohol level was 113 mg/dL which was much above the permitted limit. He was arrested under IPC section 304 — culpable homicide not amounting to murder along with rash driving and brought to the court for a hearing on Tuesday morning. He was found guilty and taken into judicial custody.
