North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, while visiting his summer villa recently, got drunk and punished military leaders by asking them to write statements about their failures in life and ordered them to write apologies, according to a Japanese media report on Tuesday.
Reports state that Kim allegedly chastised the veteran military leaders in state and said that they were not able to produce a single military satellite.
"That none of you were able to produce not even one military satellite is a misconduct that is commensurate to treason," Kim told senior officials. Reports also state that military officials were asked to stay up all night writing letters. However, when the North Korean leader woke in the morning after his drunken stupor, he appeared confused about why these military officials had gathered at his summer house.
"Why are you gathered here? Be careful about your health because you are all old," Kim allegedly told the leaders.
The situation took a worse turn when some of the military officials broke into tears fearing that Kim would order their executions for coming to his house or he may even deport them from North Korea. Some military leaders have faced the same fate after witnessing the North Korean leader's wrath.
"The government uses threats of detention, forced labour and public executions to ensure obedience and imposes harsh restrictions on freedom of information and movement. It criminalises leaving the country without official permission, and in some instances state security services actively pursue North Koreans into China, seeking to detain and forcibly return them," Human Rights Watch had recently said about the North Korean leader's rule in the nation.
Kim has reportedly been accused of heavy drinking before too when a Japanese sushi chef Kenji Fujimoto once said that the leader drank around 10 bottles of the expensive Bordeaux wine in one sitting.
