Popular television actress Drashti Dhami, who rose to popularity with "Madhubala- Ek Ishq Ek Junoon" and was last seen on "Ek Tha Raja Ek Thi Rani," has apparently been approached to play the lead role in Ekta Kapoor's new show.
The untitled show is loosely based on Shah Rukh Khan starrer "Pardes." Apparently, the actress has already shot for the mock test. However, when India Forums contacted the gorgeous actress, she denied being approached for any such show. "It's not true. I have not even been approached. Am currently busy chilling with my family," she said.
The Times of India reported that Shaleen Malhotra, who is best remembered as Arjun in action-thriller show "Arjun," will be making a comeback on the small screen with Ekta's show. The actor has been finalised for the male lead role and will play the role of Anand, a character similar to Shah Rukh's role in "Pardes." A few portions of the untitled show will apparently be shot in Canada.
"Shaleen will play the role of Anand, a character similar to SRK's in the film. Coming from a modest background, he will grow on to become a successful man. He will be seen as the quintessential romantic guy. The show will be set against Punjabi backdrop," a source told the daily.
In other news, Drashti had quit the period love-drama "Ek Tha Raja Ek Thi Rani" as the makers wanted to take a generation leap in the storyline and the actress didn't want to play the role of a mother at this stage of her career. Later, there were also reports that Drashti was likely to return to the show as grown-up child of Gayatri (played by Drashti) and Ranaji (played by Siddhant Karnick). The role is currently being played by Eisha Singh.
