Season 6 of British period drama, "Downton Abbey", premiered on a sombre note. The first few episodes focussed on staff cuts, the decline of Britain's elite in the 1920s and Lord Grantham's sickness. However, as the final season progresses, the plot has given us something to be cheerful about. Lady Edith (Laura Carmichael) has found love and so has her elder sister, Lady Mary (Michelle Dockery).
Indeed, Lady Mary's relationship with car racer Henry Talbot (Matthew Goode) has finally materialised. In episode 6, the two shared a kiss in an alleyway in London. As they kissed, most of us let a sigh of relief knowing that our favourite singleton has let romance back into her life again. Nevertheless, it remains to be seen if their relationship will see a future.
In an interview, Michelle Dockery admitted that there's chemistry between her character and Henry, but added that there's a shocker for the eldest of the Crawley daughters.
Dockery later said that Lady Mary is never short of a suitor. "There could be someone else around," she told Mirror.
So far, Mary's interest in Henry has been rivalled by her interest and affection for her widowed brother-in-law, Tom Branson (Allen Leech). Ever since Tom returned from America, he has developed a close friendship with Mary. Furthermore, his perspective towards life appears changed. He is no longer a staunch believer of socialism and is more open to new ideas and changing lifestyles, a trait he now shares with Lady Mary.
Fans of the show have speculated that Lady Mary and Tom Branson might indeed start dating towards the end of the show. Nevertheles, it remains to be seen if she would acknowledge her feelings for Tom.
"Downton Abbey" season 6 episode 7 airs on Sunday, 1 November at 9pm on ITV.
