IAAF president Lord Coe has warned more countries could face sanctions after the World Anti-Doping Agency (Wada) makes public its report on doping related corruption in athletics on 14 January. An independent commission headed by Dick Pound says there will be damaging revelations at a news conference in Munich, Germany.
Coes brief tenure as head of the athletics body has coincided with one of the worst scandals to have hit the sport, and he has already overseen the banning of Russia after an earlier Wada report found there had been state sponsored and systemic doping.
Yes there may be other countries that are mentioned and if there are we will meet that challenge, Coe said during a television interview in London on 13 January. We know that a disproportionate amount of damage that is being done to the sport is by a relatively few number of countries.
That doesnt give me particular comfort. But what I can say is if there are nations out there that really do not have the will to make these changes then we will sanction. If it is about resources or logistics then we will partner with Wada to ensure we can help them implement national systems that create confidence.
