Google has denied rumours that it has revised the Android One programme webpage. It comes over reports that Google had removed the two-year software support and an additional year of security patches for affiliated mobiles without notice.
The reports had apparently caused furore on social media. On Reddit, several Android One series phone owners were dismayed as the two-year Android software support message was missing from the official homepage.
International Business Times, India contacted Google India and has been told that the company will stand by the claim to offer three years of software support, two for Android updates and an additional year of security patches. So, there is no need to get apprehensive about the missing information on the Android One website.
It has been assured that Android One series phone will certainly get two major Android updates. For instance, if you have bought Xiaomi Mi A2, you would have already received the Android 9.0 Pie by now and Google will offer Android Q in 2019.
Additionally, you will get regular security patch either monthly or quarterly (every three months) till August 2020 (based on device's first availability in stores).
As far as the Pixel phones are concerned, they get three years of software and security patch. The first generation Pixel phones and Pixel 2 series will be getting firmware support till October 2019 and October 2020, respectively. The latest Pixel 3 series will get support till October 2021.
