Media mogul Rupert Murdoch ostensibly criticised Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump's controversial remark calling for a ban on Muslims from entering the United States, but said, in the same tweet, that there should be a complete pause on taking in refugees.

Murdoch took to Twitter on Tuesday, after a day of worldwide outrage against Trump, and wondered if the Republican had 'gone too far', but immediately claimed that the 'public is obsessed on radical Muslim dangers' and not, through his implication, on vetting refugees. 

"Has Trump gone too far? Regardless, public is obsessed on radical Muslim dangers, Complete refugee pause to fix vetting makes sense," Murdoch tweeted, clearly hinting that incoming refugees could pose a security risk to the US.

Incidentally, Donald Trump retweeted Murdoch's statement, which may have prompted the latter to put up another post on Twitter - "NOT endorsing Trump, but support Congressional vote for immediate pause to overhaul vetting process". 

Donald Trump, on the other hand, remained defiant in the face of severe criticism not just from his country but from leaders and citizens across the world. 

"So many foolish people that refuse to acknowledge the tremendous danger and uncertainty of certain people coming into US," Trump tweeted. 

"Our country is facing a major threat from radical Islamic terrorism. We better get very smart, and very tough, FAST, before it is too late!," he added.
