Businessman and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump arrived in the US-Mexico border town of Laredo, Texas for his boots on the ground visit on 23 July, where he accused the press of misinterpreting his comments over illegal immigration.
Were talking about illegal immigration, everybody understands it, Trump said.
Trump caused an uproar with accusations last month that Mexico sends rapists and other criminals to emigrate to the US. He has also promised to build a wall on the border and make Mexico pay for it.
Thats a typical case of the press with misinterpretation, Trump said They take a half a sentence, then they take a quarter of a sentence, they put it all together. Its a typical thing, he said to a cheering crowd.
Trump added that he was suing Univision for $500m (£323m, €457m) for what they did, referring to comments he says were taken out of context regarding his position on illegal immigration.
Trump again touted his great relationship with the hispanic community, as he does on every stop of his campaign.
Very interestingly, in Nevada, for those that havent heard, they just did a poll, and Im leading, said Trump. Not only Im leading by a lot in the poll, but almost more important to me, because I employ hundreds, actually I employ thousands of Hispanics and over the years tens of thousands, but Im leading in the poll by a landslide with the Hispanics, which is a great honour for me.
The TV host is at or near the top of many opinion polls of the 16 Republican candidates for the November, 2016 presidential election, worrying the party establishment, which fears he could turn off moderate voters.
