Canines took to the waves for the 8th annual Surf City Surf Dog competition at Huntington Beach in (where else?) California. The dogs, who competed in four weight class divisions, were judged on a variety of skills, including the length of their ride and their confidence on the board. Some dogs competed in tandem with their owners, while other surfed solo. This year, the dogs had to brave unusually high waves, which led to many wipe-outs, but they seemed to love it, bounding back in to the sea at the end of a ride.
Bono, a labrador that had come all the way from Rio de Janeiro with his owner Ivan Moreira, impressed the judges so much that he was awarded the top prize.
