Actor Patrick Stewart has sparked speculation that he would be appearing in the upcoming "X-Men: Apocalypse" movie after director Bryan Singer posted a photo of the actor visiting "X-Men: Apocalypse" set.
"Trying to look intensely thoughtful, @sirpatstew and #jasonreitman visiting #xmen #apocalypse #xmenapocalypse set and reminiscing about our own #daysoffuturepast," Singer captioned the Instagram post.
Although Stewart previously said he won't be part of the upcoming movie, fans are speculating that he stopped by the Montreal set for bigger reasons that are yet to be revealed.
"I understand that it seems to be very unlikely that I will be in the next 'X-Men' movie, which is almost getting ready to start shooting in Montreal," Stewart told Oregon Live in February. "But Magneto, Ian McKellen, is certainly going to be in it."
However, he added that he will be part of yet another "X-Men" movie that will see his character teaming up with Wolverine.
"Wolverine and Professor Xavier. That would be a very different sort of "X-Men" from the four movies that I've already done," the actor said.
The upcoming movie, which is set for a May 2016 release, will see the X-Men battling Apocalypse, who is believed to be the first mutant.
Fans were first introduced to the villain in the end-credits sequence of the "X-Men: Days of Future Past" where fans got a glimpse of him using his powers to build the Great Pyramid in ancient Egypt.
Director Singer also teased at the possibility of Egypt facing destruction in "X-Men: Apocalypse."
He recently shared on Instagram a picture of himself walking through a destroyed Cairo and captioned it: "Tiptoeing through ruined Cairo."
