Little Britain star Matt Lucas is all set to join the cast of Doctor Who, alongside Peter Capaldi, at this year's Christmas Special.
According to rumours, Lucas will reprise his role of Nardole from last year's Christmas Special episode titled The Husbands of River Song. In the episode, Lucas' character was stuck inside a robot at the end.
Lucas has also been confirmed to have more screen time as Nardole in the upcoming Doctor Who series 10. The character may be introduced along with Pearl Mackie's character, Bill, who will portray the role of the Doctor's (portrayed by Peter Capaldi) new companion. These two will be among the new cast members joining the series in the next season.
Doctor Who 2016 Christmas Special has been written by Steven Moffat, who also happens to be the show-runner of the series. The 60-minute special will be directed by Ed Bazalgette of Poldark fame. The title and the name of the villains have not been revealed yet.
Talking about the 2016 Christmas special, Mark Gatiss said that it is one of "Moffat's best ever scripts, absolutely beautiful."
"It made me cry," Gatiss added.
When asked for more details, Gatiss said: "What can you expect? The Doctor is in it. It's great!"
Doctor Who tells the story of the Doctor (Peter Capaldi as twelfth incarnation), a Time Lord, who explores the universe in TARDIS, a time-travelling ship that looks like a vintage blue Police Box. He is accompanied by his companion in each of the series.
Doctor Who series 10 is expected to go on air in early 2017, thought the official release date has not been announced yet.
