To the great delight of Whovians, the new companion for Peter Capaldi's "Doctor Who" has been revealed to be theatre actress Pearl Mackie. A brand new teaser for the upcoming Season 10 of "Doctor Who" showed not only that the good doctor will be facing off against Dalek, but also that he has a new companion in the chirpy and bubbly Bill, played by Mackie.
The announcement and the teaser release was done during the half-time of the FA Cup semi-final match, which was streaming live on BBC One. Mackie will make the Doctor's tenth companion since the 2005 reboot and has already attracted love from many fans. Her "dorky" and "edgy" nature seems to appeal to many, as evidenced by the comment section of "Doctor Who" Facebook page.
Céilidh Nicholls: "Pearl is a complete dork...I love her. She is a breath of fresh air after the last few companions. I welcome her with open, equally dork-y arms."
Helen King: "I think Pearl's going to be great! Finally someone a bit edgy, fun, cool & with a bit of a tomboy edge. There is definitely a bit of Ace about her."

Mackie, on her part, is equally excited and said in her first BBC interview: "It's such an extraordinary British institution, I couldn't be prouder to call the TARDIS my home! Peter Capaldi is such a brilliant actor, and his Doctor is such a wacky and wonderful character, I can't wait to see what adventures are in store for him and Bill throughout time and space."
Bill is said to be a "wicked" character, who is cool, strong, sharp and little bit of vulnerability and a dash on geekiness thrown in.
Mackie, who is predominantly a theatre actress graduated from Bristol Old Vic Theatre School in 2010, is a relative newcomer to television. She is currently starring in National Theatre's production of "The Curious Dog in the Night-Time" and will be playing the role till June 2016. Mackie also appeared in a music video for the pop band Years & Years, according to Mirror.
