Varun Dhawan and John Abraham-starrer "Dishoom" had a good opening weekend at the domestic box office. After the sixth biggest opening day collection, "Dishoom" has now recorded the sixth highest opening weekend collection at the domestic box office.
The action-adventure drama minted Rs. 37.02 crore nett income (Rs. 51.83 crore gross) from its three-day domestic box office run. In the opening weekend collection race, "Dishoom" is behind "Sultan" (Rs. 180.36 crore), "Housefull 3" (Rs. 53.31 crore), "Fan" (Rs. 52.35 crore), "Airlift" (Rs. 44.3 crore) and "Baaghi" (Rs. 38.58 crore).
"Dishoom" shattered the records of Shahid Kapoor and Alia Bhatt-starrer "Udta Punjab" to become the sixth highest opening weekend grosser and also took its gross income to half century mark. "Udta Punjab" minted Rs. 33.80 crore, while "Dishoom" raked in Rs. 37.32 crore.
The film, helmed by Rohit Dhawan, had a good start, followed by a good second-day collection. "Dishoom" showed a growth of 8 percent on Saturday and 28 percent on Sunday compared to its opening day.
"Dishoom Fri 11.05 cr, Sat 12.02 cr, Sun 14.25 cr. Total: ₹ 37.32 cr. India biz. EXCELLENT! Dishoom biz was affected due to heavy rains in various parts of the country [torrential rains in Mumbai]. Else, biz would've been higher," trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted.
Trade analysts point out that heavy rain in several parts of the country affected the collection. Also, Karnataka bandh on Saturday would have affected the second-day box office collection of the film from the South Region, as Mysuru and Bengaluru contributes a good share.
Despite all these, the film managed to rake in good figures from its opening weekend run. Now the focus will be on its first-week run and how much does the film earns in the next four days.
"Dishoom" a buddy-cop film was released in 3,100 screens in India. The film features John, Varun and Jacqueline Fernandez in the lead roles. Akshay Khanna also plays a pivotal role in the film and is seen in a negative character. Akshay Kumar, Parineeti Chopra, Nargis Fakhri and Saqib Saleem are also a part of the film in cameos.
