Virat Kohli made a huge call ahead of India's showdown with Pakistan in the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 on Sunday June 3 by dropping star spinner Ravichandran Ashwin from the 11-team lineup.
The likes of Kedar Jadhav, Ravindra Jadeja and Hardik Pandya got the nod ahead of the talented Ashwin. Was it all about the result of a disagreement?
Kohli, speaking at the press conference ahead of the India vs Sri Lanka match on Thursday June 8, mentioned that disagreements between him and Ashwin does take place inside the Indian cricket team dressing room, but Sunday's crucial decision was accepted by Ashwin in a professional way.
"He [Ashwin] understood the dynamics of the side we picked in the last match [against Pakistan] and he was absolutely fine with it," said Kohli.
"He told me I support you whatever you want to do [with the team] and that's always been our equation."
Battle of the egos?
"Yes we do have disagreements on bowling plans and all those sort of things," mentioned Kohli. "He is a smart guy and he has his own plans in place.
"All these things happen, but in this case, in team selections and stuff, he is professional enough to understand.
"That is a very nice and beautiful thing about him. He always puts the team first. He is the first guy who said I have no problems with the combination you are going in with."
