Shah Rukh Khan starrer "Dilwale" opened to packed houses at several theaters worldwide, but the film failed to beat the opening day box office collection record of Salman Khan's "Bajrangi Bhaijaan" and "Prem Ratan Dhan Payo"
Shah Rukh and Kajol starrer "Dilwale", which was released on Friday, received mixed reviews from critics, but that did not stop the film from taking a grand start at the box office. The action romantic film earned Rs 21 crore on its opening day from the domestic box office.
"#Dilwale Fri ₹ 21 cr. India biz. VERY GOOD, in view of the fact that screens/shows got divided + protests/show cancellations at places," trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted.
While the collection of the movie is good, "Dilwale" has failed to beat the first day business record of "Prem Ratan Dhan Payo" and "Bajrangi Bhaijaan". Salman's film, which are the top grossers of 2015, were released during festival time, i.e. on partial holidays and thus they recorded the highest opening day collection of 2015.
"Dilwale" was released on a non-holiday Friday along with a big budget movie "Bajirao Mastani". Also, at some circuits, there was protest against Shah Rukh starrer, which affected the first-day box office earnings of "Dilwale".
Keeping in mind these factors, "Dilwale" first-day box office collection is impressive.
Directed by Rohit Shetty, the film features Shah Rukh, Kajol, Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon in lead roles. The film marks the comeback of Bollywood's most romantic jodi Shah Rukh-Kajol after "My Name Is Khan".
