Rohit Shetty has been paid a whopping amount of Rs 25 crore to direct the remake of Tamil movie "Soodhu Kavvum".
The film will be produced by Sangeeta Ahir and apparently, this is the highest fee that any Bollywood director has received till date. Also, this amount seems to be at par with several young actors in Bollywood.
"Yes, we have paid Rohit an exorbitant price. It's the highest fee given to any director, but then it works as Rohit Shetty is a huge brand in himself. It's a comedy film and his forte, so people want to see it. Right now, it is still in the scripting stage. We haven't approached any actor as yet. I am waiting for Rohit to return from Hyderabad where he is shooting for 'Dilwale' and then we will finalise everything," DNA quoted Sangeeta Ahir as saying.
However, the report also mentioned a source who claimed that the "Dilwale" director was paid a similar sum three years ago as well and Rajkumar Hirani is the only director who gets paid more than him.
"Sangeeta wanted to get a top director for her production house and that doesn't come cheap. Rohit Shetty is being wooed by the biggest studios. And this isn't a new development. He was signed by UTV for a similar amount, three years ago. Perhaps, the only other director who gets paid more than him is Rajkumar Hirani, but he isn't available," the source stated.
"Soodhu Kavvum" was a 2013 Tamil comedy movie, directed by Nalan Kumarasamy. Rohit Shetty has given a number of hit movies in recent times, including "Chennai Express" and "Singham", while the director's next film "Dilwale" is one of the most awaited flicks of this year.
Starring Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Varun Dhanwan and Kriti Sanon, "Dilwale" is set to be released on 18 December.
