Bollywood's veteran actress Shabana Azmi made a remark on item numbers at a panel discussion held on the occasion of International Women's Day. She pointed out the lyrics of Kareena Kapoor Khan's song "Fevicol Se" from the film "Dabangg 2."
"I have reservations against item numbers. That's because I think if a top most heroine is singing I am tandoori murgi, swallow me down with alcohol, it's not a laughing matter. It's a serious issue," she said during the discussion about Bollywood item songs.
"One person wrote the song, a few more got it made, but it was watched by crores of people. They also saw their six-year old kids singing and dancing on it. Don't you have a responsibility? It's not fun," she added.

The "Neerja" actress seemed disappointed with the choice of words used in such item numbers. She said that there is no harm to celebrate one's sensuality, but this is not the way to celebrate it. "There is a thinking, why can't we celebrate our sensuality. Of course, women should celebrate, but are you actually celebrating sensuality? No. You are surrendering yourself to the male race, you are commodifying yourself, objectifying yourselves. That's because it all depends on how the camera is capturing you, not on how short dress are you wearing," she said.
Though Kareena's performance was highly appreciated in the item song of the Salman Khan-starrer, it seems the lyrics did not impress Shabana. Wife of one of the ace Bollywood lyricists Javed Akhtar, Shabana is known for expressing her views on social issues without hesitation.
How the "Ki and Ka" actress will take the comments is something only time will tell, but the storyline of Bebo's upcoming film will probably impress Shabana.
Directed by R Balki, Kareena plays a career oriented woman and Arjun Kapoor plays a house-husband in "Ki and Ka."
