Ajay Devgn's "Son Of Sardaar" was an action comedy, but the sequel to it, "Sons Of Sardaar 2," will have a serious premise. Rumour has it that Salman Khan, and not Ajay Devgn, will apparently play the lead role.
According to a SpotboyE insider, the "Sultan" actor has not turned down the proposal of essaying the role of a Sikh in the film. "It will be a huge thing if Salman plays the central role now, but Devgn and Salman have definitely spoken about this very seriously," the source further added.
The sequel is based on the battle of Saragarhi of 1897, during which 21 Sikhs defended an army post against over 10,000 Afghan men.
"Sons of Sardaar 2" was announced exactly a year ago. Ajay had tweeted: "Sorry yaar, duniya bekar bina Son of Sardaar! Get ready for the sequel releasing Diwali 2017." While the 2012 film had Ashwini Dhir on the helm, this time it could be Ajay Devgn steering the ship.
Last year, there were reports claiming that the film could feature either Deepika Padukone or Katrina Kaif. However, a source had told BollywoodLife that Ajay isn't too keen on giving weight to the casting speculations.
"Getting Deepika or Katrina at this time in the same frame as Ajay is a big deal and he wants to keep the news under wraps (if it works out) at the moment. He is currently neck-deep in work with the shooting of Shivaay but will make a formal announcement regarding Son of Sardar 2 very soon," the entertainment portal quoted the source as saying.
