The makers of Sonam Kapoor starrer "Neerja" recently released the trailer. The entire team was present at its trailer launch.
The movie is based on the life of flight attendant Neerja Bhanot, who was shot dead by terrorists during the Mumbai-New York flight hijack at Karachi on 5 September, 1986.
Sonam plays the lead role of Neerja. Directed by Ram Madhvani, "Neerja" will showcase the bravery of the young lady, who sacrificed her life in an attempt to save passengers during the hijack.
It is produced by the ace photographer Atul Kasbekar, who is producing for the first time, under the banner of Fox Star Studios.
During the trailer launch, Atul said that his first reaction when he read the script was that this story has to be told.
While talking about the pre-production of the film, he took a dig at Sanjay Leela Bhansali's directorial "Bajirao Mastani".
"We have always been terrified about having some Peshwa's great grandson come and sue you so we said let's do this right way and we contacted Akhil and Anish Bhanot, who are Neerja's brothers," Atul said at the trailer launch.
Reportedly, "Bajirao Mastani" has been facing troubles and protests since the beginning as the Peshwa descendents have accused Bhansali of distorting history.
As "Neerja" was also a biopic-based story, the makers directly contacted her brothers, Akhil and Anish, who were also present at the trailer launch.
