Deepika Padukone has reportedly been finalised for Sanjay Leela Bhansali's upcoming movie that will feature the actress as Rani Padmavati. Curiously, Kangana Ranaut tried her best to replace Deepika in the magnum opus.

Despite knowing that the "Bajirao Mastani" actress has already been roped in for the project, Ranaut directly approached Bhansali for the role, according to DNA. However, the director felt that the "Queen" actress does not fit the character, the report added.

While Padukone will be seen as Padmavati in the movie, her rumoured boyfriend Ranveer Singh will reportedly play the character of Alauddin Khilji. The duo had shared screen space in Bhansali's last film "Bajirao Mastani" that turned out to be a big blockbuster.

Although the daily confirmed that Deepika will play the female lead in the untitled project, no official confirmation is available. Nevertheless, music director Shreyas Puranik had reportedly confirmed Deepika's association with the film on Twitter. But the Twitter post was apparently deleted later. Puranik will be working on the film's music.

Padukone was busy with the shooting of her debut Hollywood movie "XXX: The Return of Xander Cage" that features her as Vin Diesel's onscreen love interest. She plays the character of a huntress in the film.

On the other hand, Ranaut will be next seen in "Rangoon" that also stars Shahid Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan. She will play the role of an actress, touted to be a very powerful character.
