It seems trash was dumped in a certain area of Delhi just before BJP's state unit chief Satish Upadhyay took it upon himself to carry out his 'Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.' At least photos in the newspapers would suggest so.
"...the BJP in Delhi has committed fraud on the PM's Swachh Bharat campaign," were Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) President Arvind Kejriwal's comments to NDTV to the alleged turn of events.
Former AAP leader Shazia Ilmi was also a part of this cleanliness drive outside the India Islamic Cultural Centre (IICC) in Delhi on Wednesday.
BJP was quick to jump to the defence of Mr Upadhyay, who on his part refused to comment on the incident, saying he had gone there only because he was invited by the Islamic Centre and had nothing to do with the 'staged' cleaning.
Ms Iilmi claimed the same, adding that her presence there was only for "five minutes."
"We will investigate who did this... This is a symbolic gesture aimed at Muslim localities where the message of clean India needs to reach urgently," said M Wadood Sajid, Media Advisor to President, IICC.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had launched the 'Swachh Bharat Abhiyan' on 2 October 2014, Mahatma Gandhi's 145th birth anniversary.
