Director Surender Reddy's Telugu movie Dhruva is set for a grand release in the US on December 8 and it is expected to be the first $1 million grossing film for Ram Charan at the US box office.
JOLLYHITS, which has earlier distributed around 20 Kannada movies, has acquired the overseas theatrical rights of Dhruva. The distribution house has reportedly shelled out Rs 6 crore on the rights and this is another big price for a film featuring Ram Charan after Govindudu Andarivadele and Bruce Lee: the Fighter, which fetched Rs 4 crore and Rs 6 crore, respectively, for their rights.
The distribution house has made grand plans for the premiere and release of Dhruva in the US. The JOLLYHITS bosses wrote on its official Twitter handle, "#DHRUVA - USA update. Coming in 202 Screens. All locations confirmed with Premier shows more than any Telugu movie in USA history.#Ramcharan."
They added: "#Dhruva release plan - audience can view movie at their nearest locations. locations will have premiers every 30mins on DEC 8th. #RamCharan. important - #Dhruva being screened in IMAX, XD, BIGD, RPX screens for premiers.Tkt price might vary but worth it.Feel big screen #RamCharan."
Ram Charan's previous releases Govindudu Andarivadele and Bruce Lee: the Fighter were released in 150 and 220 screens and collected $666,827 and $646,000, respectively, at the US box office. These are the highest numbers for the actor and his latest outing Dhruva is expected to break both these collection records in the country.
The actor is leaving no stone unturned to make it a big success at the US box office and is visiting theatres in the country with his co-stars. The JOLLYHITS bosses tweeted on November 30: "#Dhruva all set to rock in USA.. keep tuned for locations where #RamCharan and crew will be visiting. #Iamcoming."
They reconfirmed it on December 4: "#Ramcharan USA trip confirmed. #Dhruva audience will see RCT at NJ on 8th, Dallas on 9th and CALIFORNIA on 10th. Follow us for more updates."
However, the movies of other popular Telugu stars, like Pawan Kalyan, Mahesh Babu, Junior NTR, Prabhas, Allu Arjun and Nani, have surpassed $1 million mark at the US box office. But despite having huge fanbase for mega family in the country, Ram Charan is yet to see his first $1 million grossing film in the country. Trade experts predict that his latest outing Dhruva will surely join the club of those movies.
