Aamir Khan starrer "Dhoom 3" had a fantastic theatrical run in Indian and overseas markets, taking into account its high box office numbers.
But the release of Salman Khan's "Jai Ho" this week might end the dream run of "Dhoom 3". Although "Dhoom 3" is in fifth week of theatrical run at the Indian box office, it is still fetching decent collections. But the release of "Jai Ho" will slow down the business of "Dhoom 3" as the number of screenings will be affected.
"Dhoom 3", released on 20 December, had the highest screen count in India with 4,500 screens.
The screen count descended week by week with the arrival of new films. It was majorly affected when two films - "Dedh Ishqiya" and "Yaariyan", were released on 10 January.
After the release of three films this week, "Dhoom 3" is hardly screened in theatres. In Bangalore, Kolkata and Hyderabad only four to five shows are running this week, while in Chennai the film has completed its run.
The only places where the film is still being shown with more than 10 shows are the NCR region and Mumbai.
Now, Salman's "Jai Ho" is releasing this Friday i.e. on 24 January in around 4,500 screen in India and around 650 screens abroad, which is the highest recorded screen count ever for a Salman starrer.
Unconfirmed reports have also indicated that the screen count may go beyond 5,000 in India alone, according to Bollywood Hungama.
But whether or not the screen count goes beyond 5,000, Salman's film is expected to start with a bang at the overseas box offices.
