"Dhoom 3" has received one of the best openings of the year with both multiplexes and single screens opening to roaring response. Despite being a non-holiday and a Friday, the film opened to packed houses with 95 to 100 percent occupancy in morning shows itself. The film started with a bang not only in India, but also in international markets.
Films like "Chennai Express" and "Krrish 3" had created waves at the box office, but as per reports "Dhoom 3" has opened with huge occupancy, which is quite comparable with the other two.
The action thriller also starring Katrina Kaif, Abhishek Bachchan and Uday Chopra was released on Friday in more than 4500 screens in India, which is the highest ever recorded.
The pre-booking rate and first show occupancy suggests that the film will break all the previous record and surpass the ₹100 crore club within first weekend. Even the advance booking for Sunday shows is more than 90 percent, Bollywood Hungama reported.
Due to winter and fog in North India, the film was expected to open on a decent note. But even in north circuits the response is tremendous.
The low-key promotions and the makers' unique marketing strategy has worked well for the film. Trade analysts have called "Dhoom 3" a 'hurricane' at the box office.
"And the morning shows of #Dhoom3 begin on a fantabulous note. Packed houses. The hurricane called #Dhoom3 arrives," trade analyst Taran Adarsh said.
"After a very early trend, its confirmed now that #Dhoom3 has taken a DHAMAKEDAR opng at the BO, all across & in BOTH s/s & mpxs," Girish Johar said.
