As expected, the much-hyped film "Dhoom 3" started with a bang at the worldwide box offices. The Aamir Khan starrer action thriller has shattered all the previous records created by other big films.
The Yash Raj production minted ₹30 crore (Hindi version) and ₹36 crore including Tamil and Telugu version, which is the highest ever opening day collection, beating both holiday and non-holiday release.
"Chennai Express", which was released on Eid, had held the record of the highest holiday opener with ₹33.12 crore. "Krrish 3", released on 1 November, had held the record for highest normal working day opener with ₹25 crore.
However, both the records have now been shattered by Aamir Khan's "Dhoom 3".
"#Dhoom 3- All Languages Hindi Rs 33.42 Cr, Tamil & Telugu Rs 2.80 Cr: Total Rs 36.22 Cr," trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted.
"If one includes biz of Tamil and Telugu versions, #Dhoom3 Fri biz could be anywhere between ₹34 cr to ₹ 35 cr. Will update actuals later," Adarsh added.
Being a non-holiday release, the action thriller's first day collection is fantastic. The film registered amazing response from both multiplexes and single screens.
Despite the fog and cold, Delhi and other north circuits registered good occupancy but the collection was slightly lower in the southern market compared to "Chennai Express".
The action thriller has also shattered records in overseas market. The film has started with a bang at overseas box offices too raking in £247,783 (₹2.50 crore) from UK, NZ$ 69,162 (₹35 lakh) from New Zealand and A$ 157,207 (₹86.94 lakh) from Australian box offices.
"Internationally, #Dhoom3 is in Top 5 charts in key markets. UK: No 4, Australia: No 5, New Zealand: No 5. USA yet to compile. HISTORIC," Adarsh said.
Directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya, the film also features Abhishek Bachchan, Katrina Kaif, Uday Chopra and Jackie Shroff in important roles.
