Dhanush's "Mariyaan (Maryan)" is all set to hit the theatres worldwide on 19 July.
"Mariyaan" will be releasing in nearly 350 screens across Tamil Nadu. Post the success of "Raanjhanaa" ("Ambikapathy" in Tamil), "Mariyaan" is getting released in more number of screens in North India, particularly in multiplexes.
According to senior film journalist Sreedhar Pillai, advance bookings for the film in Chennai multiplexes are quite high.
Directed by Bharat Bala, "Mariyaan" is about human survival and is inspired by true events. Dhanush appears as a fisherman who struggles to deal with life's challenges and fights for his survival in extreme conditions.
"A young man is faced with adversity. Life deals him immense challenges, and forces him to struggle to thrive. But he does, nevertheless, fighting to survive by thriving on the sheer undying spirit of the human will to survive. Along his thrilling journey is a tryst with adventure, a smattering of drama and a gritty tale that shows the power of love in extreme circumstances. And that is the story of Mariyaan," according to a press statement released few months ago.
Parvathi Menon appears as the female lead in "Mariyaan". The rest of the cast includes Salim Kumar, Appukutty and Jagan in pivotal roles.
The first look poster and the film's teaser have already generated a lot of buzz. With no big Tamil film releases, "Mariyaan" is expected to have a good opening at the box office.
According to the film's director, "Mariyaan" will be worth watching in Auro 3D. The Unique Selling Point (USP) of the film is that native sounds have been mixed in the Auro 3D format. This would give audiences a realistic feel of the sounds coming from the ocean bed and other landscapes, reported Behindwoods.com.
One of the highlights of the film is its music. Oscar winner AR Rahman has composed the songs, which have already topped the musical charts. Bharat Bala once said in an interview to IANS that the film's music gets embedded in the narrative so that it serves as a screenplay.
Another highlight will be the visual experience of the film. According to Dhanush, the main protagonist in "Mariyaan", the film will provide fans a new visual treat.
