Vetrimaaran's long-pending project "Vada Chennai" has finally hit the floors. The forthcoming Tamil movie, which stars Dhanush in the lead role, was formally launched with a pooja on Wednesday, June 22.
Journalist Sreedhar Pillai confirmed the news and tweeted, "@dhanushkraja & @VetriMaaran 's long awaited #VadaChennai shoot starts from today. It is going to be a trilogy. [sic]"
The latest development has also put an end to the speculations, which claimed that the flick was put on the back burner.
Vetrimaaran's "Vada Chennai" is said to be based on the gang wars of North Chennai. The movie was supposed to take off in 2009 with Karthi. A change in the plans resulted in Silambarasan aka Simbu being brought on board to play the lead role along with Rana Daggubati, Divya Spandana aka Ramya and Andrea Jeremiah.
The project failed to take off on time and the lead actors were forced to opt out of the project. Finally, Dhanush was signed and it was revealed that the film would begin in September 2016. Now, the shooting seems to have been advanced.
Vetrimaaran had earlier directed Dhanush in National Award-winning movie "Aadukalam."
