Janhvi Kapoor and Ishaan Khatter starrer Dhadak is winning hearts across the country and its box office collection at the domestic market is a proof of that. The movie, which is an official remake of 2016 Marathi blockbuster Sairat, is currently dominating the market and racing speedily towards Rs 50 mark.
Directed by Shashank Khaitan, Dhadak, which was released in approx 2,200 screens across India, took off at the box office with flying colours and earned Rs 8.71 crore on the opening day. It managed to beat the first day collection record for a film with newcomers which was previously held by Karan Johar's Student Of The Year [Rs 7.52 crore] starring three newcomers Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan and Sidharth Malhotra.
The movie showed tremendous growth over the opening weekend earning Rs 11.04 crore and Rs 13.92 crore on Saturday and Sunday respectively. It also passed the crucial Monday litmus test and minted Rs 5.50 crore and Rs 4.76 crore on Tuesday taking the total box office collections to Rs 43.95 crore nett.
Film trade analyst and critic Sumit Kadel shared the day-wise box office collections of Dhadak on Twitter.
"#Dhadak Holds quite well on Tuesday -Fri 8.71 cr, Sat 11.04 cr, Sun 13.92 cr, Mon- 5.50 cr, Tue - 4.76 cr .Total- 43.95 cr nett. HIT," Sumit Kadel wrote on Twitter.
Dhadak is now expected to cross Rs 50 mark in its opening week thanks to the strong word of mouth from the audience who have been pouring love for its storyline, fine performances and brilliant execution as a remake.
Those who have not seen Sairat have lauded Dhadak and its heartwrenching climax while those who had watched the Marathi gem, heavily criticised the film saying it lacked the zing which the original boasted of.
Set in Rajasthan, Dhadak follows the love story of a rich upper-class girl Parthavi (played by Janhvi) and a middle-class boy Madhukar (Ishaan). But it left out the heart and soul as it barely scratched the surface of casteism and politics that was unabashedly shown in the Nagraj Manjule directorial.
Now it remains to be seen whether it will help Janhvi and Ishaan to take off their respective acting careers with flying colours.
