"Detective Byomkesh Bakshy!" starring Sushant Singh Rajput had a decent opening on Friday at the domestic box office.
Dibakar Banerjee's directorial crime thriller, which has been released in just 1240 screens, earned ₹4.20 crore on opening day in India. Despite having a limited release across the country, the film opened to good response.
The opening day box office collection of "Detective Byomkesh Bakshy!" is better than several releases this year, including Anushka Sharma's "NH10".
"#DetectiveByomkeshBakshy Fri ₹ 4.20 cr. India biz," trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted.
"#DetectiveByomkeshBakshy India screen count - 1240 screens. International screen count - 330 screens. Worldwide screen count - 1570 screens," he added.
The film, which received mixed response from critics, faced a tough competition from Vin Diesel and late Paul Walker's movie "Fast and Furious 7" or "Furious 7". Nevertheless, Sushant starrer managed a decent opening on first day.
Meanwhile, Bollywood actors and directors have showered praises on Dibakar's directorial film.
"Dil Dhadakne Do" director called "Detective Byomkesh Bakshy!" a beautiful film.
"It's one of the most beautiful films on Indian screens. I haven't seen a movie like this for a long time. Sushant Singh Rajput is great. The film is really interesting to watch. People should see it," Zoya Akhtar said on Friday after watching the film at a special screening.
"It's an experience. It's very beautiful. The cinematography is excellent. The production design is gorgeous. It is very stylistic. Dibakar is a craftsman," she added, according to IANS.
