Few hours into its release and Yo Yo Honey Singh's new song "Desi Kalaakar" featuring Sonakshi Sinha is creating waves. Shot in exotic locales, the video is visually stunning and follows the story of a young couple.
Composed and written by the rapper himself, "Desi Kalaakar" is surprisingly a good rap sans the quintessential Honey Singh touch. Director Gifty, in an effort to give the video some edge and make it of superior quality, has roped in American cops to do some chasing-the-bad guy routine (flanked by helicopters).
A wide angle shot with 'superstar' (Singh) listening to music. Dejected and frustrated, he makes a call to his girlfriend (Sinha) asking if her dad (Gulshan Grover) would agree to get them married. To his disappointment, she says no and returns to dinner. Superstar doesn't give up, picks her up and elopes. Essentially, it's a typical Bollywood plot device, but executed with style.

Looks like Singh, who was reportedly stressed ahead of the video and album launch, has no reasons to worry now. Received well by his fans and critics, his video is definitely more exciting that his last "Blue Eyes". Having released only singles, "Isse Kehte Hain Hip Hop" and "Blue Eyes", of late, a complete album comes much after "International Villager" (2011).
"What's interesting is that all the songs have a story to tell. It marks my transition from a rapper to a singer. I've worked closely with Bhushanji over the years and he has always given me creative freedom," Singh told the Times of India during the launch.
Releasing across several social media platforms, his ablum "Desi Kalakaar" features eight tracks and they are: Title track "Desi Kalakaar", "Love Dose", "Tonight I'm Your DJ", "Chal Mere Ghar", "Daftar Ki Girl", "One Thousand Miles", "Stardom", and "Latrine (I'm Doing My Shit)".
