Rumours are rife that "Descendants of the Sun" actor Song Joong Ki is secretly married to a 20-year-old named Mai Wei, and this has undoubtedly shocked his ardent fans who have been hoping for a romance between Song Joong Ki and actress Song Hye Kyo.
The rumour, which has since been proved false, originated after a contest was held in Beijing to find a "wife" for the actor. The contest was held to find out how well his female fans knew him and the winner, Mai Wei, was announced as Mrs. Joong Ki. She was also won a total amount of 6,000 yuan as "dowry."
Not much is known about Mai Wei other than that she is studying in Beijing University in China and has made several appearances in television dramas.
As for details about his love life, Song Joong Ki is remaining tight-lipped. In a recent interview he revealed that he wouldn't reveal the identity of the woman he is involved with even if he was dating so as to safeguard her privacy.
Ever since "Descendants of the Sun" became a global phenomenon, there has been increased interest in the actor's personal life, resulting in his previous girlfriend losing her privacy. "To be honest, I'm a little upset these days," he revealed to Asia One in an earlier interview when asked how the Korean military drama has changed his life. "My family has been exposed to the media. Some people break into our house. My ex-girlfriend's photos are circulating online. To say that these are things I need to endure for the sake of celebrity ... that's sad. I want to respectfully request that my private life remain private."
Song Joong Ki is currently involved in the filming of "Battleship Island" where he plays Park Moo Young, someone who belongs to the Korean Independence group who sneaks onto Battleship Island to rescue a member of his group.
