Fans were shocked to learn Demi Lovato was admitted in the hospital after an apparent drug overdose on Tuesday, July 24.
The 25-year-old was reportedly rushed to a Los Angeles hospital after she was found unconscious at her residence on Tuesday.
The singer has previously come out and admitted to cocaine and Oxycontin addiction but she fought through her dependence and has been sober for six years. However, she confessed recently that she fell off the wagon. Sources close to the singer revealed that Demi has been a mess for months now.
"You could tell when Demi was doing well with her sobriety because she wasn't hanging out at clubs. She has still very much kept up her work schedule and daily life, but there have definitely been signs that she isn't doing great with her sobriety," a source told People Magazine.
"Things have been a total mess for months. She and her team severed ties, and they played a large part in getting her sober years ago. She hasn't been in a good place," the insider added.
Demi's rep confirmed that the singer is "awake and with her family." The statement shared with several publications reads, "Demi is awake and with her family who wants to express thanks to everyone for the love, prayers and support. Some of the information being reported is incorrect and they respectfully ask for privacy."
While it was suspected that Demi overdosed on heroin, TMZ reports that it was not heroin. Law enforcement sources told the outlet that Demi was treated with Narcan, an emergency treatment for narcotic overdoses, at her home.
The entertainment news site also reports that Demi refuses to tell paramedics which drug led to the overdose.
Soon after the news about her overdose made headlines, friends and fans of the star took to different social media platform to show their support. Her ex-boyfriend Joe Jonas, who is currently engaged to Game of Thrones star Sophie Turner, posted a message on Twitter.
He wrote, "Like all of you I am thinking of @DDLovato right now. She needs our prayers and support. We all know how strong you are Demi. #prayfordemi." A source told Hollywood Life that her ex-boyfriend Wilmer Valderrama is scared due to the situation.
"Wilmer is scared and is really racked with many emotions right now. He is trying to figure out the best way to get to her and be there for her and get her the help she needs from this point on," a source told the site.
