Zomato one of the top-rated online food ordering and delivering application operating in nearly  25 countries across the world, is soon going to de-list hundreds of restaurants from their food ordering platform for not being compliant to the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) regulations.

All the restaurants who were not able to furnish an FSSAI license to Zomato will be delisted from the ordering platform for not following regulations and hygiene standards of the restaurants.

Zomato had introduced Food Hygiene Ratings last year. It's an initiative that is being embraced by the restaurant community. "Its a matter of taking the right call because, at the end of the day, the well-being of our users matter immensely to us," said Deepinder Goyal, founder and CEO of Zomato

Few restaurants which were not able to furnish their FSSAI licenses and have high ratings and repeat orders on Zomato have been given time to submit their licenses until the end of this month.

Zomato is going to make sure that they don't list any cloud kitchen unless and until it goes through their mandatory food safety and hygiene checklist. This hygiene check is conducted by reputed third party experts.

"I personally wish to thank the FSSAI CEO, Pawan Kumar Agarwal, and fully support his organisation's ongoing efforts toward a safer and better restaurant industry in India," said Goyal

"These measures will certainly help strengthen the ecosystem as it will filter out parties that aren't keen on prioritising the users' interest. Nobody wants to consume food prepared in an unkempt kitchen. Following this de-listing drive, we are expecting an uptick in hygiene standards," he added
