The Trinamool Congress leadership said that BJP-RSS was behind the cancellation of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's event scheduled to be held in Delhi University's St. Stephens College on August 1.
She was invited to address the students of the college but later the invitation was withdrawn by the college authorities. According to a professor of the college, the invitation was cancelled due to "protocol issues". Notably, the event was planned by one of the societies of the college.
As per a Press Trust of India's report, the society of the college had sent an online invitation to Mamata, which wasn't delivered by the TMC supremo due to server issues. And when the event planning society asked the college principal about it, he denied permission to invite her.
Stand of TMC leadership on event's cancellation
The TMC leadership slammed BJP and RSS by stating, "Let them keep trying, her voice cannot be silenced."
"Mamata Banerjee is giving the BJP-RSS sleepless nights," a senior TMC MP told IANS.
Further, the MP narrated two more similar incidents where Mamata had to cancel her pre-planned visits. She was invited to Chicago to attend the 125th anniversary of Swami Vivekananda's speech at the Parliament of World's Religions. However, she was later informed by the organisers that the event was cancelled under "unforeseen difficulties" and "demise of a monk".
Also, Mamata's eight-day scheduled political meet under an exchange programme in China was cancelled at last minute by hosts of the event.
Moreover, the MP informed that Banerjee will visit Delhi on 31 July to attend "Love your Neighbour" conference as a chief guest. The event will be organised by The Catholic Bishops Conference of India (CBCI), which is India's largest Christian body.
