An eight-month-old baby is battling for her life at a Delhi hospital after being raped by her 28-year-old cousin on Sunday.
The accused used to reside in the same building where the baby lived with her parents in west Delhi's Subhash Nagar, PTI reported.
The child has been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of a hospital and her condition is stable, the doctors said.
What had happened?
The infant's father is a daily wage worker and was at work when the horror took place at their house. Her mother works as a domestic help and had asked her sister-in-law to babysit her.
It is alleged that the 28-year-old cousin found the baby alone and allegedly sexually assaulted her. The incident came to light when the infant's mother returned home and found the child lying in a pool of blood.
The parents immediately informed police and a case was registered against the cousin under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO).
The 28-year-old man had fled the spot after committing the crime and was arrested on Monday.
What to do? How can Delhi sleep today when 8 month baby has been brutally raped in Capital? Have we become so insensitive or we have simply accepted this as our fate? Where is the sena which attacked a school bus to 'protect honour'? No one to ask questions from the system now?

The chief of Delhi Commission for Women (DCW), Swati Maliwal, has condemned the incident and said in a tweet, "How can Delhi sleep today when an 8-month-old baby has been brutally raped in Capital? Have we become so insensitive or we have simply accepted this as our fate?"
