Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday inaugurated the Delhi-Faridabad Metro Line that would provide a hassle-free journey for around two lakh people who travel from the national capital to the satellite city of Faridabad in Haryana daily.
Modi was scheduled to fly down to Faridabad in a chopper for the inauguration. However, he took a ride from the Janpath Metro Station to Faridabad's Bata Chowk Station at around 10am. During his journey from Delhi to Haryana's industrial hub, Modi interacted with other commuters who took selfies with him, PTI reported.
The PM was received by Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and Governor Kaptan Singh Solanki at Faridabad. Union ministers Venkaiah Naidu, Virender Singh, Rao Inderjet Singh and Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) chief Mangu Singh also acompanied Modi.
Later, Modi addressed a public meeting at HUDA Ground in Faridabad's Sector 12. Khattar and Solanki also attended the event.
Badarpur-Faridabad Metro line
The Badarpur-Faridabad metro line covers a distance of 14-km via nine stations from Sarai to Escorts Mujesar. Two more stations - NCB Colony and Ballabgarh - will be added in 2017.
"The nine-station metro corridor, which was 95 percent indigenously built, will provide people a safe, affordable, quick, comfortable, reliable, environment-friendly and sustainable transport facility," a Haryana Government spokesperson told PTI.
The nine stations in the line include, Sarai, NHPC Chowk, Mewala Maharajpur, Sector-28, Badkal Mor, Old Faridabad, Neelam Chowk Ajronda, Bata Chowk and Escorts Mujesar. "All these are elevated and located on either side of the Delhi-Mathura Road (NH-2)," the spokesperson added.
The frequency of the trains on the route will differ in peak and non-peak hours. While metro trains will run in every 6:40 minutes during peak hours, from 8 am to 11 am and 5 pm to 8 pm, the frequency will be reduced with trains running in every 7:30 minutes.
