The para-medical student, who was gang-raped and thrown off a private bus in south Delhi on Sunday night, is said to be in critical condition.
The doctors at New Delhi's Safdarjung Hospital, where the girl is admitted, said that the victim was subjected to severe brutality and is on ventilator support at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Her intestines and other internal organs were damaged, and she had lost nearly a litre of blood, reported Hindustan Times.
Meanwhile, police have detained the bus driver and other four suspects in the case. The driver, identified as Ram Singh and is considered the prime accused, had his brother Mukesh at the wheel when the crime took place. Officials said they retrieved details of the molesters from Singh.
According to reports, the 23-year-old victim was with a male friend when the incident occurred. The duo boarded the bus to Palama at around 9.30 pm from Munirka in south Delhi. The offenders assaulted them with rods and then raped the girl. They were thrown off the bus in a semi-naked condition near Mahipalpur flyover.
The girl's friend filed a First Information Report (FIR) at Vasant Vihar police station at around 1.15 am. He is currently being treated for head injuries.
The victim, whose name was withheld, had pursued a para-medical course from Dehra Dun and was interning at a hospital in Delhi.
