Former Delhi minister Kiran Walia has been named as Congress' candidate against Aam Aadmi Party president Arvind Kejriwal for the Delhi polls starting 7 February 2015. In the 2013 Assembly Elections in Delhi, Congress candidate Shiela Dikshit had suffered a heavy defeat by over 25,000 votes against Kejriwal.
According to sources, Ms Walia was at first hesitant about contesting from the national capital but agreed later following the party's direction, reports NDTV.
The BJP candidate for the seat is yet to be announced.
Ms Walia had served as Minister for Health and Education in Ms Dikshit's Cabinet.
AAP's Somnath Bharti had defeated Kiran Walia from the Malviya Nagar constituency in the 2013 Assembly polls. Ms Walia had won the seat in 1999, 2003 and 2008.
